The City of Fort Worth continues to collaborate with the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), regional partners and North Texas residents to develop an Air Quality Improvement Plan for the Dallas-Fort Worth area (DFW AQIP). The funding to develop this plan was made available by the EPA’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRG).

What the DFW AQIP aims to accomplish:

  • Create a roadmap to improve air quality.
  • Protect public health.
  • Reduce the impacts of extreme weather events.Initial strategies being considered for the region:

  • Secure or create riparian corridors of natural habitats along waterways.
  • Clean fleet technologies to include electric vehicles and charging stations.
  • Secure open spaces of high-quality natural areas for future generations.
  • Infrastructure that will reduce greenhouse gas / methane emissions and reduce impacts to regional ozone levels.
Ways to share your ideas:

Residents are invited to give their feedback on projects and strategies they would like to be considered as a part of the DFW AQIP in two ways:

1. Take the survey today: Offer feedback through the online survey for community members and advocates.

2. Attend an open house: Feedback can also be offered at an upcoming open house hosted by NCTCOG and the City of Fort Worth. NCTCOG is offering several upcoming open houses across the Metroplex, including one in Fort Worth on Jan. 18. See a full schedule of open houses.

The Fort Worth Open House will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, at Hazel Harvey Peace Center for Neighborhoods, Room 105, 818 Missouri Ave.

What to expect: The meeting will consist of a short presentation summarizing the planning effort and air quality challenges in the DFW region. Attendees will also have an opportunity to share ideas with City and NCTCOG staff, as well as take the input survey.

The North Central Texas Council of Governments is a regional planning agency created to bring individuals and local governments together and to support a variety of issues across North Texas. Written feedback for the DFW AQIP can be mailed to Savana Nance, Senior Air Quality Planner, 616 Six Flags Drive, Arlington, TX 76011.
